The Brief

When Anne and her partner Roger moved into their lovely 1950’s bungalow in 2008, they had plans to completely renovate the whole house. And, over the last 7 years or so, they’ve done exactly that. As well as putting their own mark on the place from top to bottom, they’ve extended the property, added a new conservatory, upgraded the kitchen and installed new bathrooms including an en-suite to their master bedroom.

The couple are both keen on DIY, so they have done most of the work themselves, calling in specific trades people as and when necessary. When it came to the creation of a home office in one of their three bedrooms – they decided to get Sharps in to help with the planning & design and complete the installation.

"I wanted a room that could be used as an office/hobby room but could still be used as a guest bedroom. Most of the house is custom made, so we wanted to carry this throughout the house – that’s why we chose Sharps."

Since moving, my photo albums hadn’t been looked at, as they’d been stored in a crate. When Sharps suggested making the shelves the right height to house them, I was delighted!

The Solution

Anne's designer helped choose the Como home office range in white gloss with an oak frame, as this perfectly matched the décor in the rest of the house.

The room has been transformed into a stylish, multi-functional space that Anne loves pursuing her hobbies in. In addition to a home office, it also works perfectly as a guest bedroom.

  • The space had to work as a guest bedroom and home office
  • Specially designed spaces for sewing machine, DIY tools and hobby equipment
  • Manhattan home office range in White Gloss and Oak
  • Floor to ceiling bookcase

How we did it

As the space also had to work as a guest bedroom, the Sharps designer suggested creating a designated area for the home office, stretching across the wall that accommodated the window – the perfect position for an expansive desk come workstation.

The workstation was made up of no less than four sets of drawer units, to store all of Anne’s various bits of interior design kit and office supplies. Plus the designer also included a built-in cupboard at one end, to house the sewing machine and other tools and hobby equipment that Anne uses on a regular basis.

Opposite the workstation, in an awkward corner of the room, the designer suggested that a floor to ceiling bookcase should be built. This proved to be Anne’s favourite part of the whole installation as the height of the shelves were designed specifically to hold all of her many photo albums.

  • We created an expansive desk/workstation beneath the window, across the longest wall
  • We incorporated a bookcase to optimise space
  • We created plenty of storage for hobby tools and equipment
  • We matched the furniture to the décor in the rest of the house

Here’s a list of the finishing touches and suppliers Anne utilised to complete the look:

  • Wall paint: Fresh Stem - Dulux
